Michigan Raptors Strengthen Secondary with the Signing of Veteran Defensive Back Markus Mims

DETROIT, MI — October 2025

The Michigan Raptors have added a major piece to their defense heading into the 2026 Arena Football season, signing veteran defensive back Markus Mims, a Detroit native with NFL experience and a proven reputation as a game-changing defender.

At 30 years old, Mims brings toughness, leadership, and a deep football résumé to the Raptors’ secondary. His journey from Detroit’s Loyola High School (2009–2013) to Bluffton College (2013–2017), and then through multiple professional levels, has shaped him into one of the most respected defensive backs in the region.

Mims’ professional experience includes standout seasons with the Michigan Timberwolves (2017), representing Team USA (2018–2019), and earning an opportunity with the Cleveland Browns (2020). Most recently, he anchored the defense for the Michigan Avengerz (2025), where his aggressive style and field awareness earned him league-wide recognition.

“Markus brings that fearless mentality and veteran presence every championship team needs,” said a Raptors spokesperson. “He’s smart, physical, and knows how to lead by example. Our fans are going to love the energy he brings to the field.”

Known for his hard-hitting style and ability to read opposing offenses, Mims is expected to be a cornerstone of the Raptors’ defense as the team prepares for its highly anticipated 2026 inaugural arena football season.

With Mims patrolling the secondary, the Raptors’ defense is looking faster, tougher, and more dangerous than ever.

Welcome home, Markus Mims — Detroit’s own, now a Michigan Raptor.
